First Engineering College of Travancore

The College of Engineering, Trivandrum was established in 1939 as the first Engineering College in the then Travancore State. The first classes commenced on 3rd July 1939 during the reign of the Travancore King, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma.

Initially housed in the Chief Engineer’s bungalow (present PMG Office) under the leadership of Maj T.H. Mathewman, the college shifted to its present sprawling 125-acre campus in 1960. From an initial intake of 21 students, it has grown into a premier institution with over 4,500 students, maintaining its eminence as a leading engineering college in India.
